Power Cuts Are Getting Worse

If you live in Inverness, Dores, or anywhere across the Highlands, you already know the drill. Storms roll in, the power goes out, and suddenly you have no heating, no internet, no hot water — and no idea when it will come back on. For homes with electric heating systems, water pumps or anyone working remotely, even a few hours without power can cause real problems.

A Simple, Safe Solution

We supply and install a pure sine wave inverter generator paired with a manual changeover switch, so your essential circuits keep running when the grid goes down.

What stays on during a power cut:

Heating Controls
Key Lights
Fridge / Freezer
Broadband Router
Phone Charging
What is a manual changeover switch? It’s a simple switching device installed next to your consumer unit that safely isolates your home from the grid before connecting the generator — preventing any risk of back-feeding the mains.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, in most cases. If your heating uses a boiler with electrical controls (like most gas and oil systems), the generator can power those controls along with the pump. Fully electric heating systems (like storage heaters) draw too much power and aren’t suitable, but we’ll assess this during the free survey.
Absolutely. The manual changeover switch completely isolates your home from the mains grid before connecting the generator. This prevents dangerous back-feeding and is fully compliant with BS 7671 wiring regulations. The installation is carried out by a qualified electrician and tested to current standards.
It depends on which circuits you want to keep running. For most homes wanting heating controls, a few lights, the fridge and broadband, a 3kW to 4kW inverter generator is usually enough. We’ll work out exactly what you need during the survey — no guesswork.
Not usually, and that’s by design. The idea is to power your essential circuits — the things you really need during a power cut. Trying to power everything (electric shower, cooker, immersion heater) would require a much larger, noisier, and more expensive generator. We help you pick the circuits that matter most.
We use inverter generators, which are significantly quieter than traditional models. At typical load, they run at around 50–60 dB — about the level of a normal conversation. They’re designed for residential use and won’t disturb you or your neighbours.
Most installations are completed in a single day. After the initial survey, we can usually book you in within one to two weeks depending on our schedule and stock availability. If you’re preparing for storm season, get in touch early to avoid the rush.
